Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The log Kow for 2,2-bis(methylthio)propane was determined to be equal to 3.3.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Log Kow (Log Pow):
3.3

Additional information

During a first study (Ricaud, 2007), the partition coefficient was determined using the shake-flask method (OECD Guideline No. 107, 1995). As BMTP could not be quantified in the aqueous phase (concentration lower than the limit of quantification), it could only be concluded that the partition coefficient is higher than 3.3.

Thus, the partition coefficient of 2,2-bis(methylthio)propane was determined using the HPLC method according to OECD 117 guideline and GLP requirements. According to this study (Paris, 2007), the logarithmic partition coefficient (n-octanol/water) of the test item was determined to be equal to 3.3. The temperature during the analytical sequence was between 20.9 and 23.1 °C and pH 6.04 was observed in the mobile phase.
