Registration Dossier

Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets

Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

First-aid measures

Emergency measure - Inhalation: Remove promptly to fresh air. If symptoms occur, seek
medical attention. If not breathing, administer artifical
respiration and seek immediate medical attention.
Emergency measure - Eyes: Flush with water for at least 15 minutes, including under
eyelids
Emergency measure - Skin: Wash with soap and water
Emergency measure - Ingestion: Seek medical attention

Fire-fighting measures

Recommended extinguishing agent: Water, dry chemical, carbon dioxide or foam.

Product arising from burning: oxides of carbon

Product determined by test: N

Protective equipment: Wear usual firefighting equipment, e.g. self-contained
breathing apparatus and protective clothing.

Accidental release measures

Emergency measures in case of spillage: Collect spilled material using vaccum equipment specifically
designed for handling combustible dusts. The use of water
for washing down is not recommended, unless the spilled
material is already wet. Wet material will make a surface
extremely slippery amd will need thorough flushing with
water before the risk of slipping on the surface is removed.

Handling and storage

Handling: Avoid breathing dust. Workplace atmosphere should be
controlled by local exhaust ventilation to control exposure
levels below airborne exposure limits for non-hazardous
dusts: use NIOSH or EN approved respiratory protection
equipment when these exposure limits are exceeded.
Combustible dust: keep away from heat, sparks, flames.

Storage: Store in a cool dry place in sealed containers, away from
sources of ignition.

Packaging of the substance and or preparation: Contingent on the intended use of the substance as follows.

1. Oilfield applications: the substance will be shipped in
25kg bags.

2. Cement additive: the substance will be shipped in 11.3kg
(25lb) bags.

Stability and reactivity

Danger other than fire: Avoid strong oxidisers

Chemical reaction with water: None reported

Dust explosion: The material as normally packaged and handled can contain
sufficient fine particles to form an explosive mixture if
dispersed in a sufficient quantity of air.

Dust explosion determined by test: N

Disposal considerations

Industry - Possibility of recovery/recycling: Oilfield (drilling/spacer) fluid formulation will be re-used
.

Industry - Possibility of neutralisation: Not applicable.

Industry - Possibility of destruction - water purification: Waste spacer and drilling fluid can be sent to a wastewater
treatment facility, before being released into the
environment.

Industry - Possibility of destruction - other: Waste spacer and drilling fluid can be sent to landfill nad
ploughed when dry.

Dependent on local regulatory considerations, ocean-based
oil rigs may dispose of spacer and drilling fluids directly
into the sea, where the fluid will undergo natural
decomposition or these may be disposed of in deep injection
wells

Public at large - Possibility of recovery/recycling: Not applicable: no sale to the public is planned.

Public at large - Possibility of neutralisation: Not applicable: no sale to the public is planned.

Public at large - Possibility of destruction: controlled discharge: Not applicable: no sale to the public is planned.

Public at large - Possibility of destruction - incineration: Not applicable: no sale to the public is planned.

Public at large - Possibility of destruction - water purification: Not applicable: no sale to the public is planned.

Public at large - Possibility of destruction - others: Not applicable: no sale to the public is planned.
