Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets

Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Remove contaminated clothing and shoes. Immediately

flush skin with large amounts of water. Get medical

attention. Wash contaminated clothing and clean shoes before

reuse.

Emergency measure - Ingestion: * Instructions for Ingestion :

No need for first aid is anticipated.

Fire-fighting measures

Recommended extinguishing agent: * Suitable Extinguishing Media :

Non-combustible. Choose material suitable for

surrounding fire.

Product arising from burning: Not applicable.

Product determined by test: N

Protective equipment: * Fire Fighting Procedures :

Wear full protective equipment (Bunker Gear) and a

self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA).

Accidental release measures

Emergency measures in case of spillage: * Spill Response :

Ventilate the area with fresh air.

Collect as much of the spilled material as possible. Use wet

sweeping compound or water to avoid dusting.  Sweep up.

Clean up residue. Place in a closed container approved for

transportation by appropriate authorities. Dispose of

collected material as soon as possible.

material.

Preparations :

Imported as 40 - 50 % solution :

55 gallon polyethylene-insert open head drum

Imported or sold as < 2 % fluoroelastomer slab :

12.5 kg polyethylene (HDPE) bags as such or additionally

packed in cardboard boxes (2 x 12.5 kg) or in returnable

Disposal considerations

Industry - Possibility of recovery/recycling: Recovery method 611.

As a powder, product spills at the manufacturing facility

could be easily recovered. As long as the material was not

contaminated during the spill and subsequent cleanup,

placing the recovered material back into the use stream is

expected to be a viable option. If contaminated, disposal by

incineration is recommended.

Industry - Possibility of neutralisation: Neutralization method 630.

This product is hydrolytically stable. Testing done by 3M

indicates a hydrolytic half-life of >1 year at pH values of

4, 7, and 9.  Thus, hydrolysis is not a viable option for

neutralization.

Industry - Possibility of destruction: controlled discharge: Removal method 640.

Discharge to landfill or surface water are not recommended

methods for disposal of unused product.  Product exhibits

significant toxicity to aquatic organisms (48-hr. EC50 for

Daphnia magna:  0.088 mg/L).

Product that has been compounded into fluoroelastomer is not

expected to significantly leach and thus, landfill is

expected to be a viable disposal option.

Industry - Possibility of destruction - incineration: Destruction method 661.

Incineration is the recommended method for disposal of

unused product. The structure contains fluorine and sulfur.

It is therefore recommended that the incineration facility

be equipped with scrubbers capable of removing the fluorine

and sulfur containing combustion by-products (e.g., HF, SOx)

from flue gases.

Industry - Possibility of destruction - water purification: Release to sanitary sewer is not a recommended disposal

option.  Testing based on EEC directive 92/69, C.4-C,

December 1992, OECD guideline no. 301B July 17, 1992, and

ISO standard 9439 (1999) indicates it does not inhibit the

microbial population of the wastewater treatment system, but

was not shown to be sufficiently removed via microbial

degradation and thus, should not be released to wastewater

treatment systems for purposes of disposal.

Industry - Possibility of destruction - other: None known.

Public at large - Possibility of recovery/recycling: Not applicable since the substance will not be available for

the public at large.

the public at large.

Public at large - Possibility of destruction - others: Not applicable since the substance will not be available for

the public at large.
