Registration Dossier

Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets

Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

First-aid measures

Emergency measure - Inhalation: If inhaled remove to fresh air. If not breathing, give
artificial respiration. If breathing is difficult, give
oxygen. Get medical attention immediately.
Emergency measure - Eyes: Immediately flush with plenty of water for at least 15
minutes. Get medical attention immediately.
Emergency measure - Skin: Immediately wash with soap and plenty of water for at least
15 minutes while removing contaminated clothing and shoes.
Get medical attention immediately. Wash clothing before
reuse. Destroy contaminated shoes.
Emergency measure - Ingestion: Seek medical attention immediately.

Fire-fighting measures

Recommended extinguishing agent: Water spray, foam, carbon dioxide, dry chemical.

Product arising from burning: The substance is combustible and will burn if involved in a
fire, evolving noxious fumes (eg carbon monoxide, carbon
dioxide and fumes of tin oxide(s)).

Product determined by test: N

Protective equipment: Full firefighting turn-out gear and self-contained breathing
apparatus must be worn.

Fight the fire from a safe distance or protected location.

Accidental release measures

Emergency measures in case of spillage: Evacuate personnel from immediate vicinity.

Wear appropriate personal protective equipment conforming to
the relevant national or international standards, as
mentioned in section 2.3.10.

Avoid dust formation. Absorb spillages of solutions with a
suitable inert material (eg. sand or soil). Carefully
transfer the spillage to waste containers, or use a sealed

industrial vacuum machine. Containers filled with waste
material must be labelled in the same way as the original
substance containers.

In case of spillage, stop the leak, if possible. Ventilate
the space involved. Contain, sweep up, place in container
for disposal. Prevent waterway contamination. Construct a
dike to prevent spreading. Collect run-off and transfer to
drums or tanks for later disposal.

Dispose of waste material in accordance with local
regulations by landfill or incineration.

Handling and storage

Handling: The substance should be stored, handled and used under
conditions of good industrial hygiene and in conformity with
any local regulations in order to avoid exposure by
inhalation, eye contact or skin contact.

Engineering controls: Investigate engineering techniques to
reduce exposures below airborne exposure limits. Use of
local exhaust ventilation is recommended.

When exposure cannot be prevented or adequately controlled
appropriate personal protective equipment should be worn. A
safety shower and eye flushing equipment should be available
whenever there is potential for skin and eye contact.
Contact lenses should not be worn when handling the
substance. Protective equipment should conform to the
appropriate international or national standards as follows;

Chemical protective gloves to Standard prEN374

Chemical protective clothing to Standard EN368

Eye protection to Standard prEN166.

Furthermore, when respiratory protective equipment has to be
used, it must be capable of adequately controlling exposure,
be suitable for the purpose, and conform to the appropriate
international or national standards, such as a dust mask
conforming to EN149 FFP1.

These measures should be regarded as a minimum.

Storage: Store in closed containers, in a secure area to prevent
container damage and subsequent spillage.

Keep containers tightly closed when not in use.

Packaging of the substance and or preparation: The substance is packaged in a 38.5 gallon
polyethylene-lined, fibre drum with a steel lid. The
specified drum has UN marks of 1G/Y80/S.

Stability and reactivity

Danger other than fire: Contact with bases and reducing agents may result in a low
energy release.

Chemical reaction with water: None.

Dust explosion: The substance has the potential for explosion from the
build-up of static discharge.

Dust explosion determined by test: N

Disposal considerations

Industry - Possibility of recovery/recycling: Discharge to the environment will be minimal. Recovery from
minor spillages or accidental discharge is not economically
or technically feasible, and such waste material will be
disposed of by incineration or landfill. In principle, it
may be possible to recover larger spillages of
uncontaminated material for subsequent use.

Industry - Possibility of neutralisation: The notification tests have shown that the substance is
harmful by acute and toxic by prolonged oral exposure. It is
an irritant to skin and eye and a skin sensitiser. No
chemical treatment is practicable to neutralise these
hazardous health properties.

The dust hazard will be controlled by appropriate storage
and handling measures.

No chemical treatment is practicable to neutralise the
hazardous environmental properties.

Industry - Possibility of destruction: controlled discharge: Contaminated containers or spillages of solutions mixed with
inert material (eg. sand or soil) may be disposed of by
landfill at an authorised tip in accordance with local
regulations.

Industry - Possibility of destruction - incineration: The substance can be disposed of by incineration by burning
under controlled conditions at a licensed waste treatment
processor in accordance with local regulations. Stack gases
should be scrubbed, because noxious fumes (eg. oxides of
carbon and tin) could be formed.

Industry - Possibility of destruction - water purification: The substance should not normally be discharged directly to
the sewage system or the aqueous environment. However,
adverse effects on sewage treatment systems would be
unlikely as the substance is not toxic to sewage
micro-organisms at the limit of aqueous solubility.
