Description of key information

After 33 days of exposure, the lowest NOEC was observed for post-hatch survival corresponding to 0.058 mg a.i./L based on mean measured concentrations.

Additional information

The objective of the study was to define the lethal and sub-lethal effects of the test substance on the early developmental and juvenile stages of the freshwater fish species, Pimephales promelas, in accordance with OECD Guideline No. 210 Fish, Early Life Stage Toxicity Test (July 1992) and GLP requirements (Goodband, 2015).

The test was conducted under semi-static test conditions with daily renewal of the test media, using embryos produced by in-house brood fish which, on exposure, were at the tail bud stage of development.

Given the decline in measured concentration over each dosing period, the results have been based on mean measured test concentration. These were calculated to be 0.0020, 0.0052, 0.017, 0.058 and 0.21 mg a.i./L (equivalent to 63, 52, 53, 58 and 66% of nominal value, respectively).

The NOEC value for hatching success and growth (taking into account final fish length and wet weight) was considered to be 0.21 mg a.i./L based on mean measured concentrations.

The NOEC value for post-hatch survival was considered to be 0.058 mg a.i./L based on mean measured concentrations.

The validity criteria were considered to have been achieved, therefore this test is considered to be valid.
