Registration Dossier

Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets

Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Administrative data

First-aid measures

Emergency measure - Inhalation: Remove patient to fresh air. Seek medical attention.

Emergency measure - Eyes: Rinse thoroughly with water. Seek medical attention.

Emergency measure - Skin: Remove contaminated clothing. Wash with water, seek medical

attention if irritation develops.

Emergency measure - Ingestion: Seek medical attention.

Fire-fighting measures

Recommended extinguishing agent: Carbon dioxide and dry foam may be used.

Water spray may be used but care should be taken as the

substance reacts violently with water (cf. 2.3.5).

Product arising from burning: Products of combustion may contain oxides of carbon,

nitrogen and sulfur together with hydrogen gas and soot.

Product determined by test: N

Protective equipment: A self contained breathing apparatus should be worn.

Accidental release measures

Emergency measures in case of spillage: Isolate spillage. Wash area with water to produce less

hazardous product. Dispose of contaminated water by

absorbtion on an inert substance and incineration at a

suitable facility in accordance with local regulations.

Handling and storage

Handling: Observe the usual precautions when handling potentially

dangerous (see 2.3.4, 2.3.5) organic chemicals. Solvent

proof gloves, face shield and respiratory protection should

be worn.

Storage: Store in a cool dry place.

Contact with moisture, may lead to a build up of carbon

dioxide pressure.

Stability and reactivity

Danger other than fire: Exposure to xylene vapour and isocyanate indicates a risk to

the respiratory system.

Chemical reaction with water: Reacts violently with water to produce carbon dioxide.

Disposal considerations

Industry - Possibility of recovery/recycling: Recovery for recycling is not possible.

Industry - Possibility of neutralisation: Reaction with excess water converts the substance to a more

stable and potentially less hazardous product with

liberation of carbon dioxide. Care should be taken as the

reaction is potentially violent.

Industry - Possibility of destruction: controlled discharge: Not recommended.

Industry - Possibility of destruction - incineration: Recommended method at a suitable facility. Waste gas

treatment to remove oxides of nitrogen and sulfur, and also

hydrogen chloride should be fitted.

Industry - Possibility of destruction - water purification: Not recommended.

Public at large - Possibility of recovery/recycling: The substance will not enter the public domain.
