Registration Dossier

Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets

Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

First-aid measures

Emergency measure - Inhalation: Remove patient to fresh air. Seek medical attention after

significant exposure, show the label where possible.

Emergency measure - Eyes: Rinse with water.

Emergency measure - Skin: Wash with soap and water.

Emergency measure - Ingestion: Drink one or two glasses of water, do not induce vomiting.

Seek medical attention, show the label where possible.

Fire-fighting measures

Recommended extinguishing agent: Recommended extinguishing agents: Suitable extinguishing

agents are water, carbon dioxide, foam and dry powder.

Product arising from burning: Products arising from pyrolysis: Combustion products will

be carbon oxides together with some soot. (Aromatic

hydrocarbons (benzene?), aldehydes, ketones and phenolics

may be present).

Protective equipment: Protective equipment: A self-contained breathing apparatus

should be worn.

Accidental release measures

Handling and storage

Handling: Use local exhaust ventilation. Avoid dust formation, a

respirator should be worn if exposure to dust is likely.

Wear protective gloves and safety glasses. Wash hands

before breaks and at the end of the workday.

Storage: Keep in tightly closed containers. (If oxidising properties

are confirmed, do not store with combustible material).

Disposal considerations

Industry - Possibility of recovery/recycling: Contaminated substance may be recrystallised from toluene.

Recovery from paper is not possible, the paper can be

recycled without any special problems.

Industry - Possibility of neutralisation: Neutralisation of the hazardous properties by chemical

means is not possible.

Industry - Possibility of destruction: controlled discharge: Disposal at a controlled landfill site is possible

(biodegradation is very slow).

Industry - Possibility of destruction - incineration: Recommended method, an approved facility should be used.

Waste from paper recycling should be incinerated.

Industry - Possibility of destruction - water purification: Not recommended in view of the possible long term oral

toxcity. It may be prudent to remove the substance from

water purification systems (eg filtration) or prevent its

entry by pre-treatment at paper manufacturing or

reprocessing sites.

Public at large - Possibility of recovery/recycling: Recovery from paper is not possible.

Public at large - Possibility of neutralisation: At the concentration used in paper, no hazardous effects

are envisaged.

Public at large - Possibility of destruction: controlled discharge: Waste paper may be landfilled.

Public at large - Possibility of destruction - incineration: Waste paper may be incinerated.

Public at large - Possibility of destruction - water purification: Waste water should be treated (eg filtration) before

entering water purification systems.
