Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Members of this category are considered to be readily biodegradable on the basis of calculated data for representative substances. The category is also expected to have low potential for bioaccumulation and adsorption to soil and sediment based on their measured log Kow range of 2.31-2.4. Structural analysis of representative substance molecules indicates that they are not expected to undergo hydrolysis in the environment due to the lack of hydrolyzable functional groups. The physico-chemical properties of but-1-ene, 2-methylpropene and butane indicate that the majority of such substances will ultimately be released to the atmosphere where it is quickly photooxidised in approximately 0.5 days, 0.75 days and 6.3 days respectively.

The category members are not expected to persist in the environment because they are predicted to degrade rapidly, have a low potential for adsorption to organic matter and have a low potential for bioaccumulation.
