Findings

 Pre-Test for Safety

A bubble chain was observed at 150 °C and the chain broke at 140 °C. The tinge of yellow was more intense after cooling down. No signs of polymerization were visible.

Evaluation and Result

For safety reasons, the lowest value of the quadruplicate determination is given as the flash point. The measured flash point is therefore 80.0°C (corresponding to 353.2 K).

Discussion

The determinations in the main test gave only one value with 80.0 °C. This is attributed to the test item’s properties as a UVCB. Possibly, vaporisation of the single components is poorly detectable, and therefore, just one value for the flash point is measured in the main test but it was similar to the value in the pre-test (80.6°C).

For safety reasons, the lowest measured value (80.0 °C = 353.2 K) is stated as the flash point of the test item.

The determination was considered valid.

Interpretation of results:
Category 4 (combustible liquids) based on GHS criteria
Conclusions:
The flash point of the test item has been determined to be 80.0°C (353.2 K).
Executive summary:

The flash point of the test substance was determined under GLP according toEU Method A.9 (Flash-Point), using a non-equilibrium closed cup method (ISO2719 -Part B). The flash point of the test item has been determined to be 80.0°C (353.2 K), which is the mean value of two independent valid determinations.

The flash point of test substance is above the classification thresholds of 60°C of the Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008 (CLP criteria) and lower than 93°C, the threshold of the UN Globally Harmonised System (GHS).

Therefore the test substance is NOT classified as a flammable liquid according to CLP criteria but is classified as a Flammable Liquid Category 4 according to UN Globally Harmonised System (GHS).

Description of key information

The substance is NOT classified as a flammable liquid according to Regulation (EC) N°1272/2008 (CLP criteria).

The substance is classified as Flammable Liquid Category 4 according to UN Globally Harmonized System (GHS criteria).

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flash point at 101 325 Pa:
80 °C

Additional information

The flash point of the test substance was determined under GLP according to EU Method A.9 (Flash-Point), using a non-equilibrium closed cup method

(ISO2719 -Part B).

It is considered as a key study. The result is retained as key data for purpose of CSA.

This study is relevant for the classification regarding flammable properties.
