Description of key information

Long term toxicity of 1,2-Benzenedicarboxylic acid, di-C16-18-alkyl esters to fish is not expected

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

According to Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006, Annex IX, Column 2, long term testing shall be proposed if the chemical safety assessment according to Annex I indicates the need to further investigate the effects on aquatic organisms. 1,2-Benzenedicarboxylic acid, di-C16-18-alkyl esters (CAS 90193-76-3) is highly insoluble and moderately biodegradable and therefore, its bioavailability in the water phase will be limited. Furthermore, the results from the aquatic short term tests showed no effects within the range of water solubility, and the bioaccumulation potential of the substance is low. Thus, chronic exposure and toxicity of 1,2-Benzenedicarboxylic acid, di-C16-18-alkyl esters to fish species is not expected. Considering this information and for animal welfare reasons, long term testing with fish is not deemed necessary.
