Description of key information

The preliminary screening test on Corfree® M1 showed that the substance is not capable of propagating combustion. The substance is not highly flammable according to the definition in Council Regulation (EC) No 440/2008, method A.10.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
non flammable

Additional information

Corfree® M1 is not flammable or unstable, will not react violently in contact with moisture or air, and is not particularly volatile. Based on the major ingredient in Corfree® M1 (consisting of 46 wt% dodecanedioic acid) the flammability is expected to be a similar to dodecanedioic acid.

The preliminary screening test was performed for the determination of the flammability of Corfree® M1 diacid mixture. In contact with the flame of the gas burner the test substance melted and turned into a light-brown residue. White smoke was observed. After removal of the ignition source, no propagation of combustion of the test substance was observed. No propagation of combustion of the test substance along 200 mm length of the pile within 4 minutes was observed. According to the guidelines, performance of the burning rate test is not required. Based on the results obtained, the test substance is considered ‘not highly flammable’.

Justification for classification or non-classification

No propogation of combustion of the test substance along 200 mm length of the pile within 4 minutes was observed.
