Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

Short-term ecotoxicity data for freshwater at three trophic levels are available. The EC50 and LC50 value of the three trophic levels were always at or above the WAF (water accomodated fraction) due to the low water solubility of the test substance. The lowest WAF and thus the lowest EC50 of above 34 mg/L was determined within the growth inhibition study to algae (EbC50 = 35 mg/L, ErC50 > 34 mg/L). This endpoint was used to derive an appropriate aquatic PNEC value. The toxicity of the test substance to activated sludge was tested to be 1655 mg/L. This endpoint was used to derive the PNEC STP. The substance is not readily biodegradable but its degradation reached levels ranging from 24 to 50 % in several tests during an incubation period of 28 days. Bioaccumulation of 1-Hexanol, 2-ethyl-, manuf. of, by-products from, distn. Residues is not expected due to the low measured log Pow of 1.6. Based on the equilibrium partitioning method the PNEC values for soil and sediment were estimated to be 0.0514 mg/kg soil and 0.0792 mg/kg freshwater sediment. However, during production, formulation and use of the substance an exposure to the different environmental compartments is unlikely to occur.

Conclusion on classification

Due to the fact that the LC50 for fish was below 100 mg/L but above 10 mg/L and the test substance is considered as not ready biodegradable, the substance is classified as Aquatic Chronic 3 (H412). However, the EC50 and LC50 values for fish, daphnia and algae tested were at or above the water accomodated fraction of the test substance (34 - 38 mg/L).
