First-aid measures

Inhalation : Move to fresh air.If breathing has stopped or is labored, give assisted respirations.

Supplemental oxygen may be indicated.  If the heart has stopped, trained personnel

should begin cardiopulmonary resuscitation immediately.  

Skin contact : Wash off immediately with soap and plenty of water.Wash off immediately with

plenty of water for at least 15 minutes. Immediately remove contaminated clothing, and any extraneous chemical, if possible to do so without delay.Take off contaminated clothing and shoes immediately.

Eye contact : Rinse immediately with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes.Rinse immediately

with plenty of water, also under the eyelids, for at least 15 minutes.

Remove contact lenses.

Ingestion : Prevent aspiration of vomit.  Turn victim's head to the side.Never give anything by

mouth to an unconscious person.

If a person vomits when lying on his back, place him in the recovery position.

Fire-fighting measures

Extinguishing media: Suitable extinguishing media : Carbon dioxide (CO2), Dry chemical, Dry sand, Limestone powderAlcohol-resistant foam.

Special hazards arising from the substance or mixture:

Incomplete combustion may form carbon monoxide.  May generate ammonia gas.  

May generate toxic nitrogen oxide gases.  Burning produces noxious and toxic fumes.

In the event of fire, cool tanks with water spray.  Fire or intense heat may cause violent rupture of packages.

May form explosive mixtures in air.  

Advice for firefighters: Use personal protective equipment. Wear self-contained breathing apparatus for firefighting if necessary.  

Avoid contact with skin. Do not allow run-off from fire fighting to enter drains or water courses.

Fire residues and contaminated fire extinguishing water must be disposed of in accordance with local regulations.

Accidental release measures

Personal precautions, protective equipment and emergency procedures: Evacuate personnel to safe areas.Use self-contained breathing apparatus and chemically protective clothing. Remove all sources of ignition.

Environmental precautions: Construct a dike to prevent spreading.  Prevent spilled product from entering streams or drinking water supplies. Local authorities should be advised if significant spillages cannot be contained. Shut off or remove all ignition sources.

Methods and material for containment and cleaning up: Place in appropriate chemical waste container.Call Emergency Response number for advice. Approach suspected leak areas with caution. Absorb with inert absorbent materials such as:

Dry sand. Vermiculite.Activated charcoal.  

If possible, stop flow of product.

Handling and storage

Advice on safe handling : Use personal protective equipment.  

Do not use sodium nitrite or other nitrosating agents in formulations containing this product.  Suspected cancer-causing nitrosamines could be formed.

Use only in well-ventilated areas. Avoid contact with eyes. Avoid breathing vapors and/or aerosols. Do not breathe spray.

 

Hygiene measures : Provide readily accessible eye wash stations and safety showers.

General protective measures : Discard contaminated leather articles. Remove contaminated clothing. Drench affected area with water for at least 15 minutes.

Storage Information : Do not store near acids. Keep containers tightly closed in a dry, cool and well -ventilated place. To avoid ignition of vapours by static electricity discharge, all metal parts of the equipment must be grounded.

Keep away from heat and sources of ignition. Keep in a dry, cool place. Keep away from oxidizers.

Keep away from open flames, hot surfaces and sources of ignition.

Exposure controls / personal protection

Stability and reactivity

Stable under normal conditions.

Conditions to avoid: Heat, flames and sparks. Container can be pressurized by carbon dioxide due to reaction with humid air and/or water.

Incompatible materials: Reactive metals (e.g. sodium, calcium, zinc etc.). Materials reactive with hydroxyl compounds.

CAUTION!  N-Nitrosamines, many of which are known to be potent carcinogens, may be formed when the product

comes in contact with nitrous acid, nitrites or atmospheres with high nitrous oxide concentrations.
