EC number: 271-240-3 | CAS number: 68526-92-1 A complex combination of hydrocarbons produced by the distillation of products from the hydrogenation of isotridecanal from the hydroformylation of dodecene. It consists predominantly of C10-12 olefins and paraffins and C13 alcohols and aldehydes and boils in the range of approximately 160°C to 253°C (320°F to 487°F).

Description of key information
Oxooel LS13 is not regarded as flammable liquid based on a measured flashpoint of 70°C. Additionally, Oxooel LS13 was assessed to have no pyrophoric properties and to be not flammabable in contact with water based on experience during handling and use and also based on evaluation of structural features.
Key value for chemical safety assessment
- Flammability:
- non flammable
Additional information
The flammability of liquids is determined on basis of their flash point (in combination with their boiling point), their ability to emit flammable gases upon contact with water and their pyrophoricity.
The flash point of Oxooel LS13 was determined to be 70°C, and the substance has a boiling point of 199.5 °C. Based on these results the substance does not have to be classified as a flammable liquid, because the classification criteria for flammability are not met.
The UN classification procedure for pyrophoric solids does not need to be applied because experience in handling shows that the substance does not ignite spontaneously on coming into contact with air at normal temperatures and because of the absence of structural alerts. For the same reasons, the EC A.13 test does not need to be performed. The substance has no pyrophoric properties.
It was also concluded that the UN classification procedure for substances which may react with water to emit flammable gases does not need to be applied because: 1. experience in handling shows that the substance does not react with water (see endpoint 4.8); 2. the substance lacks structural alerts. The EC A.12 test does not need to be performed for the same reasons. The substance is not highly flammable in contact with water.
Justification for classification or non-classification
The flash point of Oxooel LS13 was determined to be > 60°C (see endpoint 4.11). Based on the absence of structural alerts and experience in handling, Oxooel LS13 was assessed to be not pyrophoric and not flammable in contact with water. Therefore Oxooel LS13 does not have to be classified for flammability under the CLP Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008.
