Description of key information

In an OECD 201 test using Desmodesmus subspicatus the aquatic toxicity to algae after 72 h was determined. The median effect concentration with respect to growth rate ErC50 of Quaternary ammonium compounds, tri-C8-10-alkylmethyl, chlorides, to Desmodesmus subspicatus was calculated to be 0.290 mg/l loading rate. The ErC10 for 72 h was determined to be 0.138 mg/L.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for freshwater algae:
0.29 mg/L
EC10 or NOEC for freshwater algae:
0.138 mg/L

Additional information

In an OECD 201 test using Desmodesmus subspicatus the aquatic toxicity to algae after 72 h was determined. The median effect concentration with respect to growth rate (ErC50/0-3 days) of Quaternary ammonium compounds, tri-C8-10-alkylmethyl, chlorides, to Desmodesmus subspicatus was calculated to be 0.290 mg/l loading rate (95% confidence limits: 0.207–0.390 mg/l).The ErC10 for 72 h was determined to be 0.138 mg/L
