Description of key information
Additional information
Appearance:
Available data suggests that the chemical 1-Aminonaphthalene-6-sulfonic was powder in appearance.
Melting point:
From Danish QSAR database,2016 experimental melting point value of chemical (5or8)-aminonaphthalene-2-sulphonic acid was estimated to be 173.38 degree C.
Boiling point:
From Danish QSAR database(2016) boiling point value of chemical(5or8)-aminonaphthalene-2-sulphonic acidwas estimated to be 432.16 degree C.
Density:
The density of chemical 5-Aminonaphthalene-2-sulphonic acid was found to be 1.502 g/cm3.(Chemsrc,2015)
Particle Size Distribution:
The particle size distribution (granulometry) of (5or8)-aminonaphthalene-2-sulphonic acid by Rotap sieve shaker analysis was determined to be in the range of 75 micrometer to 500 micrometer. Majority of the particles were found to be more than 150 micrometer (42.38%) in size.
Vapor Pressure:
The vapor pressure of the test chemical was estimated using EPI MPBPVP.
The estimated value of vapor pressure for (5or8)-aminonaphthalene-2-sulphonic acid was 7.013E-008 Pa.
Partition Coefficient:
The octanol - water partition coefficient of the test chemical was estimated using Danish (Q)SAR Database
The estimated logPow of (5or8)-aminonaphthalene-2-sulphonic acid was -0.91
This value indicates that (5or8)-aminonaphthalene-2-sulphonic acid is hydrophillic in nature.
Water Solubility:
The water solubility of the test chemical was estimated using WATERNT v1.01 of EPISUITE.
The estimated water solubility (5or8)-aminonaphthalene-2-sulphonic acid at 25°C was 1000000mg/l, which suggests that the test chemical was highly soluble in water.
Surface tension:
In accordance with column 2 of Annex VII of the REACH regulation, this testing needs to be carried out only if surface activity is a desired property of the chemical. The chemical (5or8)-aminonaphthalene-2-sulphonic acid is used in the manufacture of various dyes. For this use, surface activity is not a desired property and hence this end point is considered for waiver.
Flash Point:
According to Column II of Annex VII, the flash point study does not need to be done for substances that are solids or gases at room temperature. The substance (5Or8)-aminonaphthalene-2-sulphonic acid (CAS No.51548-48-2) is a solid at room temperature .Hence, the study does not need to be conducted and the endpoint was considered for waiver.
Auto Flammability:
(5or8)-aminonaphthalene-2-sulphonic acid did not catch fire on being exposed to air at room temperature of 27°C and atmospheric pressure of 966 hPa. This indicates that (5or8)-aminonaphthalene-2-sulphonic acid is not auto-flammable.
Flammability:
(5or8)-aminonaphthalene-2-sulphonic acid does not indicate any ignition when the flame of bunsen burner having temperature of approximately 950°C is brought in contact with it. Thus it can be concluded that (5or8)-aminonaphthalene-2-sulphonic acid is not flammable at high temperature. However since such high temperatures are not found under normal circumstances of transportation and use, thus (5or8)-aminonaphthalene-2-sulphonic acid was considered non-flammable for chemical safety assessment.
Viscosity:
In accordance with Section 2 of REACH Annex XI, information requirement section 7.17, this study cannot be conducted on solid materials or gases. According to ECHA Chapter 7 guidance, viscosity measurement is only relevant to liquids.(5or8)-aminonaphthalene-2-sulphonic acid is a white colored powder.Hence this study can be considered for waiver.
