Biodegradation was examined in a GLP test according to OECD guideline 301B using non-adapted domestic sewage sludge with a prolonged exposure period of 60 days (BASF/BMG Laboratories 2012). After a lag phase of 7 days the substance began to biodegrade with an amount of 35.1% within the 10 -day window and 39% after 28 days, both related to CO2 evolution. After the whole exposure period of 60 days nearly all of the substance was mineralized indicated by a degree of 90.1%. Hence, the substance is considered as inherently biodegradable and is therefore not persistent.
