Description of key information

The primary source of possible substance environmental release is represented by industrial waste waters, thus the fate and pathways of the substance in surface water is of primary concern.

Considering the intended use in aqueous-based treatments, Direct Orange 118 is not expected to be directly released to air or soil. Based on the physicochemical properties expected, the air compartment can be considered as not relevant.

Direct Orange 118 is a powder at room temperature and it is very soluble in aqueous solutions.

In the aquatic environment, hydrolysis is not expected to be an important removal process for Direct Orange 118, due to the chemical characteristics.

Phototransformation in air/water/soil has not been investigated.

The substance is neither readily nor inherently biodegradable.

There are no empirical bioaccumulation data available for Direct Orange 118; however, based on the low log Kow, a low potential for bioaccumulation is likely.
