Description of key information

Key study: Test method OECD 209. GLP study. The 3h-EC50 for amoxicillin was determined to be higher than 1000 mg/L in microorganisms.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for microorganisms:
1 000 mg/L

Additional information

Key study: An study to assess the toxicity to microorganisms of amoxicillin was performed according to OECD Guideline 209 (GLP study). 3 g/L activated sludge (dry weight) were exposed to 10, 100 and 1000 mg/L amoxicillin (active ingredient) under aerobic conditions for 3 hours (3 replicates each). The decrease of the respiration rate based on oxygen uptake was measured after the exposure period. The 3h-EC50 for amoxicillin was determined to be higher than 1000 mg/L in microorganisms (equivalent to 1152.0 mg/L amoxicillin trihydrate).
