Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

DT50 (OH-radicals) = 7.626 hours (5x10^5 radicals cm-³; global 24-hours mean concentration) (Potassium sorbate)

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Half-life in air:
7.626 h

Additional information

For the submission of the biocidal dossier of Potassium sorbate, its half-life in air was estimated using the US EPA model AOPWIN. The results indicate that Potassium sorbate degrades rapidly in the atmosphere, reaching a DT50 of 2.575 hours for degradation by means of OH-radicals. The input parameters used for this calculation reflect conditions for a 12 -hours-day regarding the global annual average concentration of OH-radicals. Within the evaluation phase, the rapporteur member state Germany recalculated the photodegradation using a lower concentration of OH-radicals which reflects a 24 -hours day, which is the standard according to EU Guidance. Based on this re-calculation, the rapporteur estimated a photolytical half-life of 7.626 hours.
