Description of key information

Microbial respiration and metabolism (N and P mineralisation) were assessed in a leaf-litter micro-ecosystem (Van Wensem and Adema, 1991). Nitrate mineralisation proved to be the process most sensitive to the presence of fluoride: a NOEC value of 5.3 micromol fluoride/g substrate dry weight was determined.  This (101 mg F-/kg dw) corresponds to an LiPF6 concentration of 134.6 mg/kg dw.

Additional information

Microbe-mediated NO3 mineralisation proved to be more sensitive to fluoride than mineralisation of NH4 or P.
