Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

GLP-compliant guideline study available assessing acute toxicity to algae in freshwater.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for freshwater algae:
100 mg/L
EC10 or NOEC for freshwater algae:
22 mg/L

Additional information

Based on the results of the study observed in the acute algal toxicity study, it can be concluded that LiPF6 is of low/moderate toxicity to algae: 72h EC50 > 100mg/l. Effects on growth rate were observed during the study: NOEC 22 mg/l. This result is fully compatible with the reported low/moderate toxicity of fluoride and lithium to freshwater algae (two different algal 96h biomass EC50 values, 43 and 122 mg F-/l cited in HF: EU Risk Assessment Report, 2001. Lithium bromide algal growth rate 72h EC50 290 mg/l, NOEC 10 mg/l: Japan MoE 2001).
