Registration Dossier

Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets

Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

First-aid measures

General information: Condition may deteriorate with alcohol consumption.

After inhalation:

Supply fresh air. If required, provide artificial respiration. Keep patient warm. Consult doctor if

symptoms persist.

After skin contact: Wash with plenty of soap and water. If skin irritation occurs: Get medical advice.

After eye contact:

Immediately flush eyes with plenty of water, occasionally lifting the upper and lower eyelids. Check

for and remove any contact lenses if easy to do. Continue to rinse for at least 10 minutes. Get

medical attention.

After swallowing:

Wash out mouth with water. Move exposed person to fresh air. Keep person warm and at rest. If

material has been swallowed and the exposed person is conscious, give small quantities of water to

drink. Stop if the exposed person feels sick as vomiting may be dangerous. Do not induce vomiting

unless directed to do so by medical personnel. If vomiting occurs, the head should be kept low so

that vomit does not enter the lungs. Get medical attention if adverse health effects persist or are

severe. Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person. If unconscious, place in recovery

position and get medical attention immediately. Maintain

Fire-fighting measures

Extinguishing media

Suitable extinguishing agents:

Water haze

Water spray

Foam

Carbon dioxide

Dry chemical

For safety reasons unsuitable extinguishing agents Water with full jet

Special hazards arising from the substance or mixture

In case of fire, the following can be released:

Nitrogen oxides (NOx)

Hydrogen cyanide (HCN)

Carbon oxides (COx)

Sulfur oxides (SOx)

Advice for firefighters

Protective equipment

Fire-fighters should wear appropriate protective equipment and selfcontained breathing apparatus

(SCBA) with a full face-piece operated in positive pressure mode.

Additional information Not flammable

Accidental release measures

Personal precautions, protective equipment and emergency procedures

No action shall be taken involving any personal risk or without suitable training. Keep unnecessary and

unprotected personnel from entering. Do not touch or walk through spilled material. Provide adequate

ventilation. Avoid contact with skin, eyes and clothing. Put on appropriate personal protective equipment.

(see Section 8).

Environmental precautions: Do not allow product to reach sewage system or any water course.

Methods and material for containment and cleaning up:

Large spill: Move containers from spill area. Prevent entry into sewers, water courses, basements or

confined areas. Vacuum or sweep up material and place in a designated, labelled waste container.

Dispose of via a licensed waste disposal contractor.

Small spill: Move containers from spill area. Vacuum or sweep up material and place in a designated,

labelled waste container. Dispose of via a licensed waste disposal contractor.

Handling and storage

Precautions for safe handling

Avoid breathing dust.

Avoid contact with eyes and skin.

Observe good industrial hygiene practics.

Put on appropriate personal protective equipment. Eating, drinking and smoking should be

prohibited in areas where this material is handled, stored and processed. Workers should wash

hands and face before eating, drinking and smoking. Persons with a history of skin sensitization

problems should not be employed in any process in which this product is used. Do not get in eyes or

on skin or clothing. Do not ingest. Avoid release to the environment. Keep in the original container or

an approved alternative made from a compatible material, kept tightly closed when not in use. Empty

containers retain product residue and can be hazardous.

Information about fire - and explosion protection:

Use explosion-proof apparatus / fittings and spark-proof tools.

Dust can combine with air to form an explosive mixture.

Do not allow dust to accumulate on surfaces and equipment.

Conditions for safe storage, including any incompatibilities

Storage

Requirements to be met by storerooms and receptacles

Keep containers tightly closed.

Store in a cool and dry location.

Information about storage in one common storage facility

Do not store together with oxidising and acidic materials.

Further information about storage conditions None.

Exposure controls / personal protection

Additional Information about design of technical facilities

If this product contains ingredients with exposure limits, personal, workplace atmosphere or biological

monitoring may be required to determine the effectiveness of the ventilation or other control measures and/or the necessity to use respiratory protective equipment. Reference should be made to European Standard

EN 689 for methods for the assessment of exposure by inhalation to chemical agents and national

guidance documents for methods for the determination of hazardous substances.

Ensure adequate area and local exhaust ventilation.

Exposure controls

Personal protective equipment:

General protective and hygienic measures:

Wash hands, forearms and face thoroughly after handling chemical products, before eating,

smoking and using the lavatory and at the end of the working period. Appropriate techniques

should be used to remove potentially contaminated clothing. Wash contaminated clothing

before reusing. Ensure that eyewash stations and safety showers are close to the workstation

location.

Respiratory protection: Suitable respiratory protective device recommended.

Protection of hands:

Wear chemically resistant gloves (tested to EN374) in combination with

intensive management supervision controls.

Eye protection:

Safety eyewear complying with an approved standard should be used when

a risk assessment indicates this is necessary to avoid exposure to liquid

splashes, mists, gases or dusts. Recommended: Tightly-fitting safety

goggles with side-shields, face-shield.

Stability and reactivity

Reactivity No further relevant information available.

Chemical stability

The product is stable when stored at room temperature in closed, original container. Stable under

normal conditions of handling, use and transportation. Stable if protected from heat and exposure to

air.

Thermal decomposition / conditions to be avoided:

Avoid: Heat, open flames, sparks and sources of ignition.

Decomposition starts at 112 - 122 °C

Possibility of hazardous reactions

Reacts with acids under release of toxic and highly flammable carbon disulfide.

Conditions to avoid Storage at temperatures above 30 °C is NOT recommended.

Incompatible materials:

Oxidising agents

Acids

Hazardous decomposition products:

Heating can release hazardous gases: Carbon oxides (COx), nitrogen oxides (NOx), sulphur oxides (SOx).

Additional information

During and after the vulcanization process, traces of N-nitrosamines may be formed from decomposition

products of the substance (secondary amines) in the presence of nitrosating agents. N-diethylnitrosamine

is considered being carcinogenic according to TRGS 552 (Germany).

Disposal considerations

Waste treatment methods

Recommendation

Examine possibilities for re-utilisation. Product residues and uncleaned empty containers should be

packaged, sealed, labelled, and disposed of or recycled according to relevant national and local

regulations. Where large quantities are concerned, consult the supplier. When uncleaned empty

containers are passed on, the recipient must be warned of any possible hazard that may be caused

by residues. For disposal within the EC, the appropriate code according to the European Waste List

(EWL) should be used. It is among the tasks of the polluter to assign the waste to waste codes

specific to industrial sectors and processes according to the European Waste List (EWL).

Uncleaned packaging:

Recommendation Disposal must be made according to official regulations.
