Description of key information

The following study was provided to fulfil the endpoint Toxicity to Microorganisms:
Clarke N (2010) CAS No 15546-11-9: Assessment of the Inhibitory Effect on the Respiration of Activated Sewage Sludge. A reliability rating of 1 was assigned to this study, according to the criteria of Klimisch, 1997 as the study was conducted in accordance with a recognised guideline and GLP.

Additional information

The key study, Clarke N (2010), was performed to assess the effect of the test item on the respiration of activated sewage sludge. The method followed that described in the OECD Guidelines for Testing of Chemicals (1984) No 209 "Activated Sludge, Respiration Inhibition Test", Method C.11 of Commission Regulation (EC) No. 440/2008 and US EPA Draft Ecological Effects Test Guidelines OPPTS 850.6800. The effect of the test item on the respiration of activated sewage sludge gave a 3 Hour EC50 of greater than 1000 mg/l. The No Observed Effect Concentration (NOEC) after 3 hours exposure was 37 mg/l. The reference item gave a 3-Hour EC50 value of 7.8 mg/l, 95% confidence limits 6.1 mg/l – 10 mg/l. The study was considered reliable and adequate for assessment.
