Additional information

No data are available on the genetic toxicity of sodium 2-methylbutan-2-olate. The test substance hydrolyses rapidly in contact with water. The hydrolysis products 2-methylbutan-2-ol (CAS No. 75-85-4) and sodium hydroxide (CAS No. 1310-73-2) showed no genotoxicity and both are not classified as genotoxic (according to the disseminated dossiers available on the homepage of ECHA). The test substance is only used as transported intermediate.

Endpoint Conclusion: No study available

Justification for classification or non-classification

No data are available on the genetic toxicity of sodium 2-methylbutan-2-olate. As the test substance hydrolyses immediately in contact with water, the classification is based on the dissociation products. 2-methylbutan-2-ol (CAS No. 75-85-4) and sodium hydroxide (CAS No. 1310-73-2) showed no genotoxicity and both are not classified as mutagenic (according to the disseminated dossiers available on the homepage of ECHA). Based on this, sodium 2-methylbutan-2-olate is also assumed as non-mutagenic and is not classified as mutagen according CLP regulation (EC) No 1272/2008.
