Description of key information
Results of one flammability study showed that the test substance disodium disilicate (delta-crystalline) is not considered as highly flammable as in the pretest, it was impossible to ignite the test item and no propagation of flames or smouldering was observed within the testing period.
In addition no flammablility in contact with water and no pyrophoric abilities are expected. These studies are thus been waived.

The flammability of the test item disodium disilicate (delta-crystalline) was determined according to EEC-Guideline A.10 as specified in Directive 92/69/EEC. The test item was formed to an unbroken powder strip of 250 mm in length on a ceran plate. Then it was tried to ignite the powder train at one end with a flame of a teclu-powder. The test substance did not melt and as it did not ignite and propagate combustion either with flame or by smouldering along 200 mm of the powder train within the test period (4 minutes), no further testing was required and the test substance was therefore not considered as highly flammable.
In accordance with column 2 of REACH Annex VII
1. Flammability in contact with water (required in section 7.10) does not need to be conducted as experience in handling and use does not indicate that the substance reacts with water.
2. The test on pyrophoric abilities does not need to be conducted as the substance is not flammable and shows no reaction with air (experience in handling and use).
Justification for classification or non-classification
Based on the results of the flammability pretest and the considerations raised in the other two study waiving, the test substance disodium disilicate (delta-crystalline) is not classified as flammable according to Council Directive 67/548/EEC and CLP(GHS).
