Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

CAS 13863-31-5 is an organic greyish yellow powder at 20 °C and 1013 hPa; it is a member of the Stilbene Fluorescent Whitening Agents category.

It has no melting point under atmospheric pressure (1013 hPa) up to 400 °C; it decomposes at a temperature of approximately 305 °C.

Particle size distribution showed that the substance is characterized by a MMAD of 326 µm.

The partition coefficient value (experimentally measured) resulted outside the validity domain of the shake flask method (log Kow < 2.3, at 25 °C and pH 7); nevertheless this result can be considered as an evidence of the greater affinity of the substance with the water phase, respect to the octanol one and the calculated partition coefficient confirms this conclusion (log Kow: - 2.21).

The substance is soluble in water (768.4 mg/l at 20 °C and pH 9 -10), while the fat solubility is less than 0.1 mg/100 g fat.

Under environmental conditions it dissociates completely in water.

Since the substance is a solid, properties like vapour pressure, surface tension, flash point can be disregarded, while viscosity determination is technically not feasible.

It does not ignite and propagate combustion; the screening evaluation failed to evidence any reason of concern, on the basis of the chemical structure analysis and the thermal behaviour investigation.

It does not meet the criteria to be considered as flammable/explosive/oxidising.
