Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

A 14 d EC50 of 10 to 20 mg/L has been determined for growth rate effects to Lemna minor of the test substance.
The Potassium isobutyl xanthate (CAS No. 13001-46-2), the subject of this dossier) is expected to exhibit very similar toxicity to Sodium isobutyl xanthate (CAS No. 25306-75-6), which is also isobutyl compound.. Comparable metabolism would occur.
On a molecular weight scaled basis, the EC50 would be from 10.94 mg/l to 21.9 mg/l .
(10 x 188.35) /172.24 =10.94 mg/l,(20 x 188.35) /172.24 =21.9 mg/l

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for freshwater plants:
10.94 mg/L
EC50 for marine water plants:
1.1 mg/L
EC10 or NOEC for freshwater plants:
2.2 mg/L
EC10 or NOEC for marine water plants:
0.22 mg/L

Additional information

The available data for saltwater aquatic plants other than algae are limited and to obtaine the value for PNECs for saltwaters is taken account a assesment factor 10 to extrapolate to LC50 following the “Guidance on Information Requirement and Chemical Safety Assessment R.10: Characterisation of dose [concentration]- response for environment”and “Table R.10-5 Assessment factors proposed for deriving PNEC water for saltwater for different data sets”, to account for the possibility that greater taxonomic diversity in the marine environment makes it likely that some marine taxa may be more sensitive than the most sensitive freshwater taxa
