Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

For risk assessment of ammonium chloride the total topic of ammonia toxicity was regarded. Species mean acute values (SMAV), as given by U.S. EPA (1999) were considered as relevant endpoints. According to the U.S. EPA (1999) approach, the species mean acute values (SMAV) expressed in terms of total ammonia nitrogen at pH 8 range from 25.78 to 1466.35 mg N/L for aquatic invertebrates. The lowest SMAV at pH 8 was obtained in Ceriodaphnia acanthina: 25.78 mg N/L = 98.5 mg/L ammonium chloride. The adjusted species mean total ammonium nitrogen acute value for Daphnia magna is 35.76 mg N/L at pH 8 and corresponds to 136.6 mg/L for ammonium chloride.
