Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
relative self-ignition temperature (solids)
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
03/01/2001 - 04/01/2001
Reliability:
2 (reliable with restrictions)
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
other: VDI richtlinie 2263, Blatt 1
GLP compliance:
not specified
Specific details on test material used for the study:
ruthenium-oxihydrat, moisture content ca 10.2%
Key result
Relative self-ignition temperature:
> 420 °C
Remarks on result:
no self ignition observed under the test conditions

endothermal phase due to water evaporation until approx 110°C

afterwards, exothermal peak associated with temperature increase of approx 60K, followed by linear temperature increase behaviour till final temperature of 419.68°C

No self-ignition behaviour of test item.

Conclusions:
In a preliminary test up to 420°C, ruthenium (IV) oxide did not show self-ignition behaviour.
Executive summary:

A preliminary test was performed to determine self ignition behaviour of ruthenium (IV) oxide according to VDI guideline 2263. The peak of approximately 60°C observed at approx 110°C was attributed to evaporation of water. No self-ignition was observed in the temperature range 25 - 420 °C.

Description of key information

A preliminary test was performed to determine self ignition behaviour of ruthenium (IV) oxide according to VDI guideline 2263. No self-ignition was observed in the temperature range 25 - 420 °C.

In accordance with column 2 of REACH Annex VII, the self-ignition temperature study does not need to be conducted as the substance is a solid and preliminary results exclude self heating of the substance up to 400°C.

Key value for chemical safety assessment
