Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Aquatic toxicity studies of Fatty acids, tall-oil, manganese salts are not available. In the assessment of ecotoxicological effects of Fatty acids, tall-oil, manganese salts, a read-across approach from the sub-categories manganese and fatty acids, tall-oil is applied since the soluble manganese and tallate ions released upon dissolution of Fatty acids, tall-oil, manganese salts determine its toxicity in the environment. Reliable data indicate that the moiety of ecotoxicological concern are manganese cation though manganese is an essential trace nutrient required for the photosynthetic process in plants. Two reliable studies for toxicity on algae are available and the lowest effect concentrations are the 72-h NOErC and ErC50 values of 0.325 mg Mn/L and 19.8 mg Mn/L for the inhibition of growth rate of Desmodesmus subspicatus. Data for fatty acids, tall oil point to a low (if any) toxic a low toxic potential to freshwater algae.
