First-aid measures

Description of first aid measures:

General advice: First-aid crew: ensure selfprotection. Move out of dangerous area and take off contaminated clothing and shoes immediately. Keep warm and in a quiet place.

In case of Inhalation: Provide fresh air. Keep the victim calm and in a semi-upright position. If symptoms persist, call a physician.

In case  of skin contact: Wash off immediately with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes. If symptoms persist, call a physician.

In case of eye contact: Rinse immediately with plenty of water, also under the eyelids, for at least 15 minutes. Call a physician immediately.

In case of swallowing: Rinse mouth with water and drink afterwards plenty of water. Do not induce vomiting. Call a physician immediately.

Most important symptoms and effects, both acute and delayed

Symptoms: Headache, Nausea, lowered blood pressure, gastrointestinal disturbance

Risks: Irritant effects and components of the product cause formation of methaemoglobin

Indication of any immediate medical attention and special treatment needed

Treatment: Treat symptomatically and for specialist advice physicians should contact the Poisons Information Service.

Fire-fighting measures

Extinguishing media

Suitable extinguishing media: Use extinguishing measures that are appropriate to local circumstances and the surrounding environment.

Special hazards arising from the substance or mixture

Specific hazards during fire-fighting: The product itself does not burn, but it is oxidising. May form toxic gases on heating or in case of fire. nitrogen oxides (NOx)

Advice for firefighters

Special protective equipment for firefighters: In the event of fire, wear self-contained breathing apparatus.

Further information: Use water spray to cool unopened containers. Contact with combustible material may cause fire. Collect contaminated fire extinguishing water separately. This must not be discharged into drains.

Accidental release measures

Personal precautions, protective equipment and emergency procedures

Personal precautions: Ensure adequate ventilation. Wear personal protective equipment. Avoid contact with skin, eyes and clothing. Keep people away from and upwind of spill/leak. Do not breathe dust.

Environmental precautions

Environmental precautions: Do not flush into surface water or sanitary sewer system. Avoid subsoil penetration.

Methods and materials for containment and cleaning up

Methods for cleaning up: Use mechanical handling equipment. Avoid dust formation. Pick up and transfer to properly labelled containers. Adequate disposal

Handling and storage

Precautions for safe handling

Advice on safe handling: Provide sufficient air exchange and/or exhaust in work rooms. Wear personal protective equipment. Avoid dust formation.

Advice on protection against fire and explosion: The product itself does not burn, but it is oxidising. Keep away from open flames, hot surfaces and sources of ignition.

Conditions for safe storage, including any incompatibilities

Requirements for storage areas and containers: Keep containers tightly closed in a dry, cool and well-ventilated place. Store in a place accessible by authorized persons only. Store in original container.

Further information on storage conditions: Protect from moisture. Product is hygroscopic.

Advice on common storage: Do not store together with: oxidisable substances, acids, ammonium salts, reducing agents. Keep away from combustible material.

Storage temperature: < 40 °C

Specific end uses

Specific end uses: Corrosion inhibitor, Reagent for organic synthesis.

Exposure controls / personal protection

1. Control parameters: Contains no substances with occupational exposure limit values.

2. Engineering measures: Keep away from combustible material. Take precautionary measures against static discharges. Dust must be extracted directly at the point of origin.

3. Hand protection: Protective gloves complying with EN 374. Wear suitable gloves. The exact break through time can be obtained from the protective glove producer and this has to be observed. Protective gloves have to be replaced at the first sign of deterioration.

4. Body protection: Chemical resistant protective clothing according to DIN EN 13034 (Type 6)

5. Eye protection: Tightly fitting safety goggles (EN 166)

6. Respiratory protection: Dust mask recommended. Half mask with a particle filter P2 (EN 143).

7. Hygiene measures: Do not breathe dust. Take off contaminated clothing and shoes immediately. Avoid contact with skin and eyes. Keep away from food, drink and animal feedingstuffs. Wash hands before breaks and at the end of workday.

8. Protective measures: Avoid dust formation. Handle in accordance with good industrial hygiene and safety practice. Facilities storing or utilizing this material should be equipped with an eyewash facility and safety shower.

9. Environmental exposure controls: Do not flush into surface water or sanitary sewer system. Avoid subsoil penetration.

Stability and reactivity

Reactivity

Violent reaction is possible on contact with organic or other oxidizable substances.

Chemical stability
