Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Examination of the chemical structure of the substance confirms that it contains a halogen and an alkali metal. However, the potassium ion (K+) is a constituent of a stable ionic structure that does not contain oxygen. The halogen atom is not part of a characteristic structural group of concern for oxidising properties, and nitrogen is absent from the structure. Potassium Hydrogen Fluoride has a harmonised classification according to Annex VI of Regulation (EC) 1272/2008 [the CLP Regulation], but it is not classified for oxidising or explosive properties. It can be predicted that the substance does not possess oxidising properties, or contribute to the combustion of other materials.
It is therefore concluded that potassium hydrogen fluoride is unlikely to be an oxidising substance.

Justification for classification or non-classification

Potassium hydrogen fluoride has a harmonised classification according to Annex VI of Regulation (EC) 1272/2008 [the CLP Regulation], but it is not classified for oxidising or explosive properties. It can be predicted that the substance does not possess oxidising properties, or contribute to the combustion of other materials.
