Executive summary:

In this national guideline (DIN 38412, part 15) study conducted to generally accepted scientific standards, the 48 hour LD50 of the test material (EC 231-272-0) was determined to be 160 mg/l (nominal). The test was conducted on Golden ide fish under static conditions. The test result does not trigger classification and labelling of the test material under the criteria of the EU Classification, Labelling, & Packaging (CLP) regulation (1272/2008).

Additional information

In a toxicity study on fish according to the national standard test guideline DIN 38412 part 15 (Merck, 1989), the toxicity of the test item was determined. Golden ide was used as test organism and the LC50 (48 h) determined in the test was 160 mg/L. Even though material without the final distillation step was used it can be used as weight of evidence since the LC50 is above 100 mg/L and algae and daphnids are the more sensitive species. Algae are the most sensitive and, therefore, the result of the algae test will trigger the risk assessment.

Additionally, the risk assessment has been conducted with a Risk Characterization Ratio below 1. Hence, all relevant uses of the test substance are considered to be safe. Therefore, and due to animal welfare reasons it is not justified to conduct an additional fish test.
