Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Non flammable upon ignition.
The substance has no pyrophoric properties and does not liberate flammable gases in contact with water.
The substance is not a self-heating substance or mixture.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
non flammable

Additional information

The test substance is not considered highly flammable (EC A.10).

Maximum of gas evolution: > 1.0 l/kg h, flammability of the gas: not highly flammable (EC A.12).

Based on chemical structure pyrophoric properties are not to be expected.

The substance or mixture does not need to be classified as self-heating as self-heating is not considered to be of relevance for this substance, since this would require heat to be developed by reaction of this substance with oxygen and which is not lost rapidly enough to the surroundings. Since aluminium chloride (Al(3+) -ions) represents the highest oxidised form of aluminium it is intrinsically not combustible and can safely be assumed not to have a positive result under the conditions given in UN Test N.4.

Justification for classification or non-classification

According to the classification and labeling criteria of GHS and 67/548/EEC a solid with a burning time < 45 seconds or a burning rate > 2.2 mm/s shall be classified as flammable solid. The substance is a non flammable solid.
