An assessment was performed based on QSAR ToolBox predictions and literature data on analogous substances. The lowest predicted LC50 (96 h) was 144 mg/L for the species Oryzias latipes.
Executive summary:

The short-term toxicity of test substance was assessed based on the predictions from the QSAR Toolbox and the available experimental data identified in the literature search. No experimental data was available on 1-[(2-hydroxyethyl)thio]propan-2-ol but experimental data on an analogous substance has been assessed, and was supported by the OECD QSAR Toolbox predictions for selected species of fish recommended for freshwater testing according to OECD Guideline 203. The QSAR predictions calculated the LC50 to be > 100 mg/L for three different test species. In order to take the most conservative approach, a definitive endpoint was taken from the lowest predicted value which is LC50 (96 h) = 144 mg/L for the species Oryzias latipes. Therefore, this assessment ascertains that 1-[(2-hydroxyethyl)thio]propan-2-ol is not acutely toxic to fish, and no further testing is required.
