Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The substance has been determined not to be highly flammable.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
non flammable

Additional information

Ignition of neodymium carbonate was attempted with the flame of a teclu burner. Although the test item started to glow, no self-propagating flame was observed upon touching the test item with a hot flame and did not occur after 2 minutes of contact with flame. During this experiment, the colour of the test item changed from pale purple (before glowing) to pale blue (after glowing). Consequently, neodymium carbonate should be considered as not highly flammable.

Justification for classification or non-classification

Neodymium carbonate is not known to exhibit pyrophoric properties, nor flammability in contact with water. In

addition, the results of a flammability study indicate that the substance is not flammable as no self-propagating flame was observed upon touching the test item with a hot flame. On these bases, no classification with regards to flammability is required according to the DSD or CLP classification schemes.
