Additional information

Due to the high water solubility (418 g/L at 20 °C), the low Henry’s Law constant (2.23E-09 atm m3/mol at 25 °C) and the low potential for adsorption to organic soil and sediment particles (log Koc 2.45) of sodium methylparaben, the main compartment for environmental distribution is the water phase. The substance is readily biodegradable. At neutral pH methylparaben is hydrolytically stable whereas considerable hydrolysis occurs at pH > 7. Furthermore, the substance has a low value for log Kow (-0.63) and therefore bioaccumulation in aquatic organisms is not to be expected.
