Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Substance characterisation

N-tert-octylacrylamide is well-soluble in water (1 g/l). Thus the test substance will have a moderate mobility in the soil and sediment compartments . As log Kow is 2.3 and log Koc is 2.0, sorption to organic material and lipids will be limited and bioaccumulation is not expected to occur. With the low Henri's Law Constant (0.0202 Pa .m3/mol at 25°C) the rate of volatilization is considered low.

The substance is partially biodegradable under the conditions of the enhanced screening test for ready biodegradation. The branching of the tert-octyl chain of N-tert-octylacrylamide is probably the major reason for the recalcitrance to biodegradation in the test. Products formed upon hydrolysis i.e. acrylic acid and some isomers of tert-octylamine are probably biodegradable. The first reaction step (hydrolysis, possibly micro-organisms mediated) is therefore expected to be the rate limiting step. The substance was found to be hydrolytically stable at pH 4 to 9.
