Description of key information

The vapour pressure of di(3,5,5-trimethylhexanoyl)peroxide at 25 °C is most likely in the range of 1.0E-02 to 1.0E-05 Pa. For the purpose risk assessment, a value of p = 0.001 Pa is used.

To determine the vapour pressure of di(3,5,5-trimethylhexanoyl)peroxide at 25 °C three methods were applied:

- Available (historical) data from a DSC run, measuring the vapour pressure of Trigonox 36-C75 at 70 °C were extrapolated to 25 °C: p < 4.1 Pa; DSC is not among the recommended techniques for vapour pressure determination, and may not be appropriate for unstable peroxides

- From the relation between vapour pressure and molecular weight established for a range of reference substances the vapour pressure of the test substance is expected to be in the range 10-4 to 10-5 Pa

- ACD/Labs calculations for di(3,5,5-trimethylhexanoyl)peroxide: p = 3.2 × 10-3 Pa

The vapour pressure of the test substance at 25 °C is most likely in the range of 1 × 10-2 to 1 × 10-5 Pa. Weight of evidence from the above data suggests a vapour pressure of 0.001 Pa to be used in the risk assessment.
