Description of key information

Bisisobutyryl peroxide,40% solution in isododecaneis a peroxide, which decomposes at 00C and is hydrolytically unstable.

Bisisobutyryl peroxide as such is a quite unstable substance.

Stability of bisisobutyryl peroxide is increased by dilution in non polar solvents.

Stability of bisisobutyryl peroxide is decreased by dilution in polar solvents.

Bisisobutyryl peroxide decomposes completely in water after 60 minutes at 27°C.

Therefore only the following endpoints could be determined: Appearance/colour/ordour: Bisisobutyryl peroxide, 40% solution in isododecaneis a colourless clear liquid peroxide with a faint odour. So: The substance is not an aerosol or a gas.

Relative density of Bisisobutyryl peroxide at 20°C is 0.9752.

Vapour pressure of bisisobutyryl peroxide at 20°C = 1.2 mBar or 0.12 kPa.

Partition coefficient log Kow: for bisisobutyryl peroxide is 2.6.

The dynamic viscosity of Bisisobutyryl peroxide is 2.7 mPa.s at -10°C.

Endpoints concerning safety according to UN and CLPregulations:

Bisisobutyryl peroxide, 40% solution in isododecane, is classified as an organic peroxide class D.( See 4.13)

Flammability is an intrinsic hazard in the class of this organic peroxide. The substance is not flammable on contact with water.

As not a Type B peroxide, Bisisobutyryl peroxide, 40% solution in isododecane, is nonexplosive.

Organic peroxides are not oxidizers. They are classified in a distinct hazard class.

The remaining endpoints are waived based on the following properties:

The Self-Accelerating Decomposition Temperature(SADT)of pureBisisobutyryl peroxideis 0°C (reference SADT: CLP regulations 2.15.2.3 and UN Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods, Manual of Tests and Criteria, 5th revised edition, sub-sections 28.1, 28.2, 28.3 and Table 28.3.)

See: 5.1.2 Hydrolysis.Diisobutyryl peroxide is hydrolytically unstable, half time less than 12 hours.

See ECHA chapter R. 7A R7.1.71 Endpoint specific guidance p 84. The study on corrosion towards metal is technically not feasible.
