Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets

Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
flash point of flammable liquids
Data waiving:
study technically not feasible
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the flash point is only relevant to liquids and low melting point solids
Justification for type of information:
JUSTIFICATION FOR DATA WAIVING
According to REACH Annex XI/section 2, flash point measurement applies only to liquids.
As presented under IUCLID Section 4.1 and 4.2, the substance is a solid, with no melting up to the higher classification threshold for flammable liquids (i.e. 60°C for CLP criteria, 93°C for GHS criteria).
Therefore the study is not relevant.
Please refer to Flammability (Flammable solids) under IUCLID Section 4.13.

Reason / purpose for cross-reference:
data waiving: supporting information
Reference

Yellow crystals.

Color may turn to green or brown if exposed to light or heating.

Physical state at 20°C and 1013 hPa:
solid

Several literature sources provide a consistent description of the substance. The most recent review was considered as key data.

Supporting information on crystal structure and color changes is also available.

data waiving: supporting information
Reference

No melting up to 300°C, followed by decomposition.

No experimental study is available for the substance.

From several secondary literature sources, in a Weight-of-Evidence approach, the melting point is unclear, with values ranging between ca 320 and 390°C. However, no transition is observed below 300°C, and decomposition occurs above this temperature. Therefore, no key data is retained.

It should also be noted that conformational/structural changes may occur in TATB, which may explain the different values.

Endpoint:
flammable solids
Data waiving:
study technically not feasible
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted for explosives
Justification for type of information:
JUSTIFICATION FOR DATA WAIVING
According to REACH Annex VII/column 2, the study does not need to be conducted if the substance is a solid which possesses explosive properties.
As presented under IUCLID Section 4.1 and 4.14, the substance is a solid, classified as Explosive of Division 1.1.
Therefore the study is not required.
