Description of key information

A 72-hour ErC50 of >100 mg/l and a NOEC of 50mg/l, algae,  have been observed for the surrogate (chloromethyl)triethoxysilane (CAS No. 15267-95-5).

No data is available for trichloro(chloromethyl)silane (CAS No. 1558 -25. However, due to fast hydrolysis read across to the hydrolysis product (chloromethyl)trisilanol is warranted accoring to ECHA guidance that states that “for substances where hydrolytic DT50is less than 12 hours, environmental effects are likely to be attributed to the hydrolysis product rather than to the parent itself." Hydrochloric acid is not classified for environmental hazards. Data relevant for the assessment of the other hydrolysis product (chloromethyl)trisilanol can be taken from a tests with (chloromethyl)triethoxysilane (CAS No. 15267-95-5) which has a hydrolysis half-life of approximately 2.5 h at 20-25°C and pH 7 and thus predominatly gives information on the same silanol hydrolysis product. The other hydrolysis product is not classified for environmental hazards and thus not relevant for the assessment. A 72-hour ErC50value of > 100 mg/l and NOEC value of 50 mg/l have been determined for the effects of (chloromethyl)triethoxysilane (CAS No. 15267-95-5)

on Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata based on nominal concentration of the substance. The study was conducted according to a standard guideline (OECD Method 201, Smithers Viscient, 2013b) and was selected as key study.
