Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

The self-ignition temperature is defined as the lowest temperature at which the substance will ignite when mixed with air. Industrial distillation of naphthenic acid is conducted at temperatures above 200 °C and no cases of spontaneous ignition are known or have been reported. It therefore can be concluded that the self-ignition temperature is >200°C. Furthermore the substance is not considered to be flammable in accordance with the criteria laid down in Regulation 1272/2008 (See IUCLID endpoint 4.13). It should also be noted that information on this endpoint is irrelevant for classification and labelling but is rather used to assess possible risks associated with the production process. However as indicated by industrial experience no risks are associated with processes conducted at more than 200°C. In conclusion the available data deem further testing unnecessary.
