Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

No studies investigating the toxicity of Diisooctyl adipate (CAS 1330-86-5) to aquatic microorganisms are available. Therefore, in accordance to Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006 Annex XI, 1.5 Grouping of substances, a read-across to the structurally related category members Bis(2-ethylhexyl)adipate (CAS 103-23-1) and Diisononyl adipate (CAS 33703-08-1) was conducted. Further justification is given within the endpoint summary 6.1 and within the category justification section 13.In this case of read-across, the best suited (highest degree of structural similarity, nearest physico-chemical properties) read-across substance within this category was used.

The test with Bis(2-ethylhexyl)adipate (CAS 103-23-1) was conducted according to EU Method C.11 using activated sludge (BASF, 1986). No adverse effects on respiration were observed at 350 mg/L. Therefore, the NOEC (3h) is assessed as >= 350 mg/L (nominal) and the EC50 (3) > 350 mg/L.

The test with Diisononyl adipate (CAS 33703-08-1) was conducted according to ISO 8192 using domestic, activated sludge as test organism (BASF, 1990).Test concentrations of 1001.2, 498.4 and 198.8 mg/L were applied. The E20 (0.5h) was calculated as > 1000 mg/L (nominal), based on respiration inhibition.

Due to structural and property similarities to the analogue substances Diisononyl adipate (CAS 33703-08-1) and Bis(2-ethylhexyl)adipate (CAS 103-23-1) these results are also applicable to read across to Diisooctyl adipate (CAS 1330-86-5).
