Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The toxicity of ditantalum pentoxide was determined in microorganisms to be EC₅₀ > 10000 mg/L according to a key study performed in line with Commission Directive 88/302/EEC; Official Journal of the EC L 133 Part C (1988). The guideline followed is in most parts equivalent to OECD 209.

Additional information

The key study (Müller, 2000) was conducted in line with GLP and standardised guidelines with a sufficient level of detail to assess the quality of the study. Activated sludge was exposed to 10000 mg/L of the test material under static freshwater conditions. After an exposure time of 3 hours respiration inhibition was observed at 14.3%, thus it can be said that the EC₅₀> 10000 mg/L. The study was performed to a good standard and was assigned a reliability score of 1 using the principles for assessing data quality as set out in Klimisch (1997).
