Ecotoxicological information

Short-term toxicity to fish

Currently viewing:

Administrative data

Endpoint:
short-term toxicity to fish
Type of information:
migrated information: read-across from supporting substance (structural analogue or surrogate)
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
1980
Reliability:
2 (reliable with restrictions)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
other: Sudy not conducted according to an international standard guideline and not performed according to GLP. Nevertheless the investigation is well conducted and documented. It meets generally accepted scientific principles.

Qualifier:
no guideline followed
Principles of method if other than guideline:
Rainbow trout (salmo gairdneri), embryo-larval toxicity test. Exposure maintained from fertilization through 4 days posthatching. Test responses based on lethality and teratogenesis.
GLP compliance:
no

Oncorhynchus mykiss (previous name: Salmo gairdneri)

Study design

Test type:
semi-static
Water media type:
freshwater
Limit test:
no
Total exposure duration:
28 d

Test conditions

Hardness:
92 - 110 mg CaCO3/L
Test temperature:
12 - 13 °C
pH:
6.9 - 7.8
Dissolved oxygen:
9.3 - 10.1 mg/L
Details on test conditions:
Test water and toxicants were renewed twice daily and the photoperiod was 12 hours. Continuous aeration was used to mantain dissolved oxigen near saturation. Minimum egg sample size was set at 100 for fish, using 500 ml exposure chambers

Results and discussion

Effect concentrations
Duration:
28 d
Dose descriptor:
LC50
Effect conc.:
42.7 mg/L
Nominal / measured:
meas. (not specified)
Conc. based on:
element
Basis for effect:
mortality (fish)
Remarks on result:
other: 95% Confidence Limit: 32.2 - 54.2
Reported statistics and error estimates:
Log probit analysis was used to determine LC50 values with 95% confidence limits. The lethal concentrations were determined with the method of Finney. Teratic survivorswere counted as lethals in probit calculations. Miniumum sample size was set at 100 eggs, using 500-ml exposure chambers.
