Description of key information

The water solubility of lanthanum (3+) acetate was determined in a GLP study following the test design as specified in test method EC A.6 and OECD Guideline 105 (Fox, 2012). The maximum water solubility was estimated to be in the range of 15.9 to 17.9% (w/w) (equals 0.173 to 0.189 kg/L) at 20°C and a pH range of 6.5 to 6.6. The effect of initial pH, over the environmentally relevant pH range of 4 to 9, was considered to be negligible. At a final pH of the solution between 5.2 and 7.0, no significant influence on the water solubility was observed.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Water solubility:
100 g/L
at the temperature of:
20 °C

Additional information

The substance is concluded to very soluble in water. The bounded value of 100 g/L is used as the key value for chemical safety assessment, being the maximum value for water solubility as defined in the EUSES program.

Buffer solutions tested at pH 4, 7 and 9 were overruled; resulting pH-values were 5.2 -5.4 (pH4), 6.6 -6.8 (pH7) and 6.7 -7.0 (pH9) and initial pH did not influence water solubility significantly.
