Description of key information

No mutagenic effect of 2-ethylhexanoyl chloride chloride was observed in bacterial mutagenicity testing to OECD guideline 471.

Additional information

2-ethylhexanoylchloride was tested in the standard plate test and in the preincubation test with and without metabolic activation in S. typhimurium TA98, TA100, TA1535, TA1537 at dose levels of 20 -5000 and 4 - 2500 µg/plate, respectively. The study was conducted according to the OECD Guidelines 471. The test substance was complete solubility in DMSO. Bacteriotoxic effect was observed using TA 100 and TA 98 at 5000 µg in the standard plate test and with all tester strains at doses >= 500 µg/plate in the preincubation test. No increase in the number of revertants was detected in any strain with and without S9 -mix. The test substance 2 -ethylhexanoyl chloride is not mutagenic in the Ames test.

Justification for classification or non-classification

No classification suggested for mutagenicity as criteria of regulations 1272/2008/EC are not met.
