Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Assessment bases on higher aquatic plant growth inhibition, due to known strong effects to terrestrial higher plants

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

No experimental data on growth inhibition of algae are available and testing on algae, required in Annex VII, column 1, section 9.1.2., has been waived in accordance with Annex XI, 2 (as the submission item is unstable) in combination with column 1 considerations in that toxicity to another aquatic plant (i.e. duckweed) was tested instead. However algae are generally preferred, the choice of duckweed as an aquatic higher plant was required as literature data indicated significant effects of the submission item to the photosynthesis apparatus of higher (terrestrial) plants (Jordanov & Karanov 1977; Karanov, Vasilev and Pogoncheva 1975; Karanov, Vasilev & Hristova 1975 - these results are reported in the terrestrial toxicity section). Therefore the growth inhibition of the submission item on aquatic plants was tested according to OECD TG 221 using duckweed (Lemna minor) as test organism instead of algae (see chapter “Toxicity to aquatic plants other than algae”). The results of this study were used to assess effects to the first aquatic trophic level.
